As Jane Fonda recently said as host of TEDx Women, “There is perhaps no revolution of the last century as significant as the longevity revolution.” Women of this generation are living 34 years longer on average than their great-grandparents. That’s an entire adult lifespan – an additional three decades of life, now being referred to as the ‘third act’.
Despite this dramatic shift, many of the paradigms around aging and retirement remain unchanged. For a generation of women who have devoted themselves to their careers, as well as their families, the thought of what to do with all that time poses a unique challenge. Minerva is answering the call with Leaders in Transition, a six-month program for women contemplating their third act.
Minerva sees aging as an incredible opportunity to apply one’s wisdom and authenticity in a way that is ultimately fulfilling. Every woman will have a unique third act. Yet that uniqueness is what many aren’t getting from individual retirement planning: the inspiration and peer support to explore divergent paths.
What if you don’t want to garden? What if your inner entrepreneur would rather launch a gardening business instead? Leaders in Transition is designed to incorporate periods of reflection and inquiry between group sessions, to encourage self discovery and the pursuit of an authentic path.
Perhaps one woman’s goal is to leave the program with a concrete retirement plan – one that includes finances, health and wellness, and leisure and relationships. Perhaps another needs permission to leave planning behind. In any case, it’s about women discovering what they truly want out of later life.
“Leaders in Transition was the highlight of my year and undoubtedly the best decision I’ve made in a long time. Not only did I learn about the many elements a retirement plan should include (financial, leisure, health and wellness, family and relationships) but I forged friendships that have become very important to me. Just to be in the company of so many accomplished women made it a very worthwhile, even life-altering experience. I couldn’t have asked for a better group of remarkable women to spend time with as we planned ahead for what our futures may hold.” — Michelle Brenton, Leaders in Transition participant
The program occurs on one Friday per month for six months. All sessions will be held in Vancouver and facilitated by Helen Dewar, a Certified Retirement Coach.
Throughout the program the following themes are addressed:
In addition to expert facilitation, group-based discussion and individual planning activities, participants gain insight from candid presentations by ‘reinvented leaders’ who share their experiences and offer their perspectives on making the most of retirement transitions.

Tuition is $1,850 per participant.
Most of our participants are between the ages of 55–65, however we have worked successfully with women who fall on either side of this age range.
